Is there a way to get there from Winderemere, apart from walking 2 miles? We can't find any public transport, no rental car hires, and the tours that include this don't operate on the day we want to go.

When we visited the infrequent bus service to Hill top had ceased during Covid with no sign of it restarting. We took a bus to Grasmere, then a fairly level 2 mile walk on road and paths beside the road at times. The road to the ferry to Windermere is very steep down to the lake so we chose the easier direction! Hill top is equi distant from Grasmere and from the ferry and the round trip was a good way to see the mere from ma yviewpoints. There is another good walk from the ferry to Windermere but is level.

I saw plenty of cars parked on the country lanes near the house. There's also a parking area opposite the house that can accommodate maybe 4 cars. But if you're looking for a proper car park, then you're in for a long walk. The NTS car park is actually quite good. I think it can accommodate maybe 25 cars.
