As for what's blooming outdoors, depending on how much warm weather we get between now and your proposed visit date, I'd expect to see early spring blooms: scilla, snowdrops, Lenten rose, crocuses, and with any luck, the first daffodils. I normally don't make my first visit of the season to the Garden until late April, just because there's not that much blooming before that. outdoors.

Try the timed entry website in a couple of days. The customer service number is 847-835-6801. There are two hotels less than a mile from the Garden: the Renaissance and the Courtyard. The forecast for that weekend is sunny and low-mid 80s -- very typical for Chicago in August. Enjoy your visit.
