If you avoid peak seasons and peak time of day don't worry about crowds and you can take your time. The walls are wide enough that you can go slow and people can easily pass you but most people are taking their time and enjoying the views as well

The steepest steps are at the start but if you need to catch your breath you can stand to one side for a bit . As already said avoid the hottest part of the day during the summer months . It is worth doing but could be cheaper in my opinion.
