Hello; What a lovely walk you're planning...but the main attraction is between the lighthouse and the stacks (not between John O and the lighthouse. So be sure to pace yourself so that you can walk the latter part of the journey. The walk from John O Groats to lighthouse is anywhere between 45-60 minutes. And if you walk along the coast even longer. I would advise driving this leg. There is a car park at the lighthouse; so parking is no problem. Then for the main attraction; walk from the lighthouse to the very last stack; which will take a good hour at a comfortable pace. There are a few stacks; so if you want to see them; count at least three or four before turning back. They're incredible!! And well worth the walk. Be sure to wrap up as it gets hella windy there and wear appropriate footwear because the grasslands are a little soddy - so ideally Wellington boots! Enjoy! I'd do this walk again in a heartbeat. It was one of the highlights of this trip. And if you get lucky; you'll be all alone up there; and the solitude is heavenly.
