What I was told while visiting Garh Palace of Bundi that it is a disputed property as of now. The earstwhile Maharaja had apparently bequeathed the property to a close relative. There is apparently a legal suit going on. As a result, the state of maintenance is also sub optimal. Also, I have no idea about the exact number of rooms, but it has multiple levels - at least 3. Each level has about between 10-20 rooms of various sizes and dimensions.

We visted recently and had a lovely afternoon in the palace; looking at the paintings and walking up to the fort. We just have one question we can't answer. When you first walk through the arch way into the courtyard there is a room to your left, it is full of bats. There were 3 men in there (bit unfriendly - seemed a bit miffed we walked in actually) they were working on some sort of paper records, and wrapping them in material. Is this some sort of records office? Seems an odd place to work.

Sorry for the delay in answering your question. Its bit of a climb to the palace. If you are really interested to visit i think you can do it. But my advice is not to go for the fort , its a long and steep hike. But palace and the beautiful paintings you can visit and enjoy. its worth taking all the pain to visit Bundi. You have to walk for almost 300 - 400 mts ( slight inclination , can do with a slow walk) and take a left turn to enter the palace and u have to climb few steps from the garden to see the paintings inside the palace. Visit and enjoy BUNDI.
