Do you have to have a formal tour to visit? Or can you walk the trails and see things on your own?

How much hiking is involved and are the ladders fairly accessible? I have some back issues and want to be sure I could navigate the trails, etc.

The ladders are sturdy but a couple of them may be quite steep up. There are different trails - most are not that bad. I’m more concerned with the ladders.
