The restoration is amazing. I have wanted to visit Poplar Forest for years, but I am so glad I waited until now. The guided tour was excellent, and we had hours to walk the house and grounds. I can't…Rebecca P的完整评论

The quality of the tours offered at Poplar Forest is low. Our tour guide, Darla, was very knowledgeable about the architecture and the restoration process. However, she was uncomfortable with, and un…Martha D的完整评论

Between a half hour and 45 min. depends on how many people are in the group and how many questions are asked. It is much less crowded and more enjoyable than Monticello, in my opinion. you can tour the grounds and certain parts of the house at your leisure for as long as you like.

I have an RV too, I would suggest coming in to Poplar Forest the 'back way' through the neighborhood off of Waterlick Road. Mind the overhanging trees though! The main road is pretty narrow. There are two gravel parking areas, but no 'designated' RV parking. You might ask the folks inside the visitors center if you can park on the grass next to the parking lot, they're very nice. Good luck and enjoy your visit!
Where can I find drawings and dimensions for the round, rotating table and the square table with the tapered legs? I am a retired furniture builder and would like to build these tables for myself. W H Richards (Col '71)

Tricky question only because Jefferson's library of drawings are scattered about in so many places depending on the topic,i.e. architecturally related, site & grounds related, furniture, etc. I may be stating the obvious & you have already done so, but I would start with a phone call or email to the office at Poplar Forest & see where it leads. Next, the library at The University of Virginia & finally, The Library of Congress. In the mean time, I will also make inquiries outside of these circles & should I find a tangible lead I will post it as an add-on to this answer. Best of luck in finding the drawings that you seek.
How much time do you we need to see the house and grounds? Thanks!

the house tour is about 45 minutes, depending on the guide and how many questions are asked by participants. Also tours are done on specific times so you may have to wait for the next tour. Fortunately, there is a self guided component which you can do all or part of while waiting. Total time for someone who actually reads all of the guide and displays is about 2 hours. I highly recommend tours of Monticello as well. It gives more perspective to Poplar Forest.
