台北市，通称台北，是中华民国的直辖市，也是中华民国首都，位于台湾北部，地处台北盆地东北半部，为台北都会区及北台湾的中心城市，外围由新北市环绕。台北市辖有12区，其中市府所在地为信义区。全境设籍人口约249万人，人口密度每平方公里约有9,100多人，是中华民国人口第四多、人口密度最高的一二级行政区。 台北城市建立的历史，最早可追溯自清代后期1876年成立的台北府与1884年建立的台北城。日治时代中期1920年成立的州辖市，乃台北正式建市之始。1945年中华民国时期初为台湾省省辖市及省会，1949年随着政府迁台，成为首都，1967年升格为直辖市，发展至今已成为台湾金融、经济、政治、科技、教育、文化等领域的发展中心，在2020年被全球化及世界城市研究网络获评选为“Alpha−”级城市。
