Air travel is stressful enough without considering whether a plane's emergency slide can be deployed by accident. But can it?

Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, was canceled after crew members mistakenly deployed the Boeing 767’s emergency slide and the flight crew timed out before the aircraft could be repaired.

A spokesperson for the airport clarified the aircraft was empty when the emergency slide was accidentally deployed, and was pulling up to the gate to load passengers for the outbound flight.

Emergency evacuation slides are one of the key components of an aircraft's emergency equipment, and they can be life-saving if passengers and crew members need to disembark the aircraft urgently.
