China's biggest hit of all time has given the Beijing film industry fresh optimism, but economic headwinds and shifting Gen Z consumption habits could present challenges throughout the rest of 2025.

Chinese blockbuster Ne Zha 2 recently became the first non-Hollywood movie to cross $2B worldwide, and in so doing joins an exclusive group of only six other titles to click past the threshold globally.

China's animated blockbuster "Ne Zha 2" was finally released in Malaysia on March 13, captivating audiences with its impressive storytelling and visual effects. As of March 16, the movie is ranked fifth highest grossing films of all time.

Ne Zha 2's record breaking box office success means that older movies, including one from a popular franchise are pushed off top grossing lists.
