Jauron played five seasons with the Lions in the 1970s, and later served as the team's defensive coordinator and interim head coach in the 2000s.

McNeill and Reader are under contract with Detroit through 2028 and 2025, respectively. So, the Lions will be equipped with both along the interior of the D-line for at least another year. However, the depth behind them is a big question mark headed into the upcoming season.

Christian Booher: I think the Lions made the right call to promote Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator. He worked closely with Aaron Glenn and will bring some continuity to the unit, and he checks all the boxes from a leadership perspective. He seems to have the backing of the defense, and is closely aligned with Campbell.
