Antarctica has an average temperature of -30˚C but it can reach -60˚C in the coldest parts of the year. In the summer it is light for 24 hours of the day and in the winter months it is always dark.

Climate change and this relatively warm winter will accelerate ice melt in Antarctica. The Thwaites Glacier, also called the Doomsday Glacier, continues to melt at an unprecedented rate.
