Susan Campbell Named after a wooden steamship (the S.S. California) that shipwrecked off this coast in 1891, the lighthouse was constructed in the early 1900s to warn future ships of the reef perils.

It hasn’t been in use as a working lighthouse since 1963. The octagonal landmark has eight wooden structural columns set in a concrete base. Over time, water has caused the columns to deteriorate.
