The successful trials come after Starlink rival AST SpaceMobile also used its newly launched satellites to power a video call in Europe through Vodafone.

Verizon and AST have yet again pushed the boundaries of what can be done with mobile devices by successfully trialing a live video call between two mobile devices with one connected via satellite and the other connected via Verizon’s terrestrial network connection.

Verizon completed its first live NTN video call with AST SpaceMobile, and AT&T also announced additional successful testing with AST.

Verizon and AT&T have each announced milestones in making cellphone-to-satellite video calls in partnership with satellite company AST SpaceMobile.

Both made video calls using new satellites launched in September 2024. Things could get pretty exciting over the next couple of years, as wireless carriers in the US try to one up each other when it comes to satellite communication services.
