The Brazilian government is cutting down an eight-mile tract of preserved Amazon rainforest to provide space for a new four-lane highway, just before the COP30 climate conference, as per a report.

The Amazon is the world’s largest rainforest – spanning 6.9 million square kilometres (2.72 million square miles) across nine countries and covering around 40% of the South American continent.
