Two groups wound up giving money to the effort to defeat the pot amendment within days of receiving it from the Hope Florida Foundation.

Governor Ron DeSantis is pushing for the Hope Florida program to be codified by the Florida Legislature. State legislatures are pushing back, saying the governor and his wife are not transparent with the money the program spends.

Weeks after the DeSantis administration steered $10 million from a Medicaid settlement to a charity spearheaded by the first lady, the Hope Florida Foundation turned around and gave $5 million a piece to organizations that in turn gave millions to a political committee waging an anti-marijuana campaign championed by the governor.
