German carmaker Mercedes-Benz claims to have become the first carmaker in the world to drive a car powered by a lithium-metal solid-state battery

Mercedes has begun testing an EQS equipped with a solid state battery. It provides 25% more range than a lithium-ion battery of the same size and weight. Solid state batteries offer higher energy densities and safety benefits over traditional batteries.

The solid-state battery race has heated up, with Mercedes bringing on a road-going prototype in the form of the EQS sedan.
