    布法罗是美国纽约州西部的一座城市，位于伊利湖东端、尼亚加拉河的源头。人口278,349，是纽约州第二大城市、伊利县首府。对岸为加拿大安大略省伊利堡。布法罗以其冬季大雪、布法罗辣鸡翅和两支大联盟球队——全国橄榄球联盟的布法罗比尔队和国家冰球联盟的布法罗军刀队而闻名。 开埠于1801年，原名伊利湖，后改为布法罗克里克，最后缩写成Buffalo。最初这个词是法语里面“美丽河流”，后来依声音定名Buffalo，buffalo原意是亚洲水牛或者非洲水牛，但这里是指美洲野牛。曾经是“地下铁路”的终站之一。1851年建市。在19世纪曾经与美国几位总统结下缘分：米勒德·菲尔莫尔当选前是当地永久居民，并且是布法罗大学的首任校长。格罗弗·克利夫兰在1854至1882年间在当地居住，并在1882至1883年任市长。威廉·麦金莱在1901年9月6日在泛美博览会上遇刺，八日后去世。副总统西奥多·罗斯福当日在Wilcox Mansion宣誓接任。
