The movie has a very existential vibe and noir atmosphere that accentuate the tension and intensity of the violent scenes. The main character is held hostage throughout the course of the movie, and is forced to participate in illicit activities by his captor, who is a contract killer.

COLLATERAL takes audiences on a ride they won't soon forget. It's a thrill ride, but it's also a dark, dreamy meditation on morality that stays with you long after your heart stops racing. Director Michael Mann is a true craftsman of the genre, and his comfort in the audience's discomfort allows him always to be a step ahead.
