Hohenzollern Castle is the ancestral seat of the imperial House of Hohenzollern. The third of three hilltop castles built on the site, it is located atop Mount Hohenzollern, above and south of Hechingen, on the edge of the Swabian Jura (at 855 meters above sea level) of central Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

You both right, the House of Hohenzollern took its name from Hohenzollern Castle which took its name from Mount Hohenzollern, the hill the castle is built on, but this castle in the picture is the third one built on this hill by that name. It is a family memorial, built in the 1800's long after the family had gained prominence.

So, I don't know wether the Hohenzollern's history goes back that far. They are first mentioned in 1061 A.D. as bailiffs, therefore they must have been already a bit longer around. At first they only ruled in the region around the Hohenzollern castle but got land in Franconia (e.g. Ansbach and Nuremberg) in the 12th or 13th century

2018年4月11日 · Though the first construction of a castle on this site actually dates back all the way to 1000 A.D. The barbarians and germanic tribes were known to build their village fortifications on hills and occasionally smaller mountains for their natural defenses.

2023年3月6日 · The final castle was built between 1850 and 1867 by King Frederick William IV of Prussia. The castle was modelled on similar constructions in England and France built in the Gothic Revival style. In 1945 Hohenzollern Castle briefly became the home of the former Crown Prince Wilhelm of Germany, son of the last German monarch, Kaiser Wilhelm II.
