2013年1月21日 · Following my own experience I was offered a follow up appointment for colonoscopy where I received midazolam sedation and pethedine pain relief-I remember nothing else after this until the endoscopist gave me a tap on the shoulder to tell me the procedure was finished( about twenty minutes later).I was relaxed with no pain/discomfort.

I had the fears about sedation but also remembered my first colonoscopy, which was hell, even with supposedly gas and air. I spoke to the nurses on the day telling them about my previous experience and my fear of sedation. I suggested I just had the intravenous pain killer to which they agreed. The next part amazed me.

In the UK it is normally "conscious" sedation...and seems to hardly make a difference to your level of consciousness. ....it just relaxes you a bit and I was fully awake so I could watch the scope go round my large colon on the tv screen...I would fully recommend sedation.

2016年1月16日 · I had a colonoscopy without sedation and it was easy - no pain at all. There is a little bit of discomfort at first which I believe is a bit of gas they use to inflate the rectum but once the procedure was underway it was comfortable and very interesting to watch as the camera travels around and biopsies are taken (which you can't feel).

2018年5月1日 · You are supposed to get heavy sedation and a drug that makes you forget what has happened but part way through mine I shouted out in pain and I heard him say to knock me out. I never felt a thing for the gastroscopy it was the colonoscopy.

2015年10月22日 · I had a Colonoscopy in the states done without sedation or pain meds, which is highly unusual. In the states about 1% of colonoscopies are done drug free. I experienced something discomfort and a some pain at times.
