Yep, AMD and Nvidia engineers are now in an arm's race to have the best AI performance. Amd's stable diffusion performance now with directml and ONNX for example is at the same level of performance of Automatic1111 Nvidia when the 4090 doesn't have the Tensor specific optimizations. 20.76 it/s for 7900xtx on Shark, and 21.04 it/s for A1111.

There will be all these talks about "xFormers is coming for AMD soon", "Shark will have training soon", "AMD will be equal to Nvidia soon".

2023年7月25日 · AMD is prepping for AI Inference in video games using game data that will already be in the GPU's ram to allow video game developers to create more intelligent npc's and AI generated game features/mechanics. They are not doing this for FSR. It's also likely why Microsoft has invested heavily in AMD and OpenAI.

2024年3月15日 · There are two things to note here, not only is the AMD Ryzen AI CPU faster than the higher wattage Intel Core Ultra CPU but it also features a slightly slower NPU rated at 10 TOPs versus Intel's Core Ultra chip which has an 11 TOPs SKU. That is not even comparing the 28W SKUs or the Hawk Point chips which feature up to 16 TOPs of AI Compute.

This is particularly true when the less common usage AMD means that there’s less community support for isssues associated with AI on AMD.

2023年7月3日 · AMD aimed for HPC market and spent a lot more silicon (nearly 2x die size) to achieve similar ML performance as NVIDIA, which has been all in AI since 5 years ago. This will probably change in MI300 series though.
