2012年5月3日 · Type 1 - properly a blank - as cut from the rolled metal sheets Type 2 - properly a planchet - has been run through the upsetting mill to create a proto-rim. They are not uncommon - the mint even included them several years ago to fill the extra spot in mint sets (somebody will remember the year(s)).

2015年7月14日 · The OP's coin is an obverse so let's say the mint employee put a blank slightly smaller than a quarter over the anvil die, then a quarter planchet over that and then stamped the pair. The excess diameter of the quarter would squeeze past the lower, smaller disc and would produce a quarter with a full rim, a full obverse and a blank reverse.

But rather, where one side looks as if it was just punched out of the alloy sheet - it's completely flat with no concavity or raised rims.

The grading services pay little attention to whether the coin is struck on a blank or a planchet and therefore label most of them as having been struck on planchets. Most of the time a strike on a blank is indistinguishable from a strike on a planchet.

But, @SorenCoins says its at least 2 grams on his scale, he says he can see the zinc and steel layers, it's completly plausible that it's a 1943 steel cent blank that didn't make it to the upsetting mill.
