Joel falls into a nest of worm-monsters called "Sand-Gobblers", when two survivors, Clyde Dutton (Michael Rooker) and Minnow (Ariana Greenblatt), rescue him. Minnow was adopted by Clyde, when her dad was killed fighting a monster who had attacked Clyde's son.

Love and Monsters follows Joel Dawson, a man living in a monster apocalypse, who leaves his underground bunker to reunite with the girl he loves. The film has a great premise and I liked the overall self-aware tone the film had going for it.

After reconnecting over radio with his high school girlfriend Aimee (Jessica Henwick), who is now 80 miles away at a coastal colony, Joel begins to fall for her again. As Joel realizes that there’s nothing left for him underground, he decides against all logic to venture out to Aimee, despite all the dangerous monsters that stand in his way.
