The vestibular nuclei (VN) are the cranial nuclei for the vestibular nerve located in the brainstem. In Terminologia Anatomica, they are grouped in both the pons and the medulla in the brainstem.

There are four vestibular nuclei located beneath the floor of the fourth ventricle: the inferior, medial, lateral and superior vestibular nuclei. These nuclei are positioned near the junction of the medulla oblongata and pons and are arranged in a diamond-like configuration:

Vestibular Nuclei. The vestibular nuclei are located in the floor and lateral walls of the fourth ventricle. The main components of the vestibular complex are the medial, spinal, superior, and lateral vestibular nuclei (Vidal and Sans, 2004).

There are four 2nd order vestibular nuclei: the inferior, medial, lateral (Deiter’s) and superior vestibular nuclei. All four nuclei are found beneath the floor of the fourth ventricle in the medulla and pons, lateral to the sulcus limitans.
