2024年2月14日 · Arid lands are diverse ecosystems that are crucial to the Earth’s environmental balance. Understanding the types of arid lands and their unique challenges is essential for their preservation and the sustainability of the communities that depend on them.

The arid environment can be stratified into three zones: hyper-arid, arid, and semi-arid. The zones are characterized by low annual precipitation (0 to 800 millimeters), which occurs infrequently and irregularly, and is vegetated by drought resistant species.

Definition of Arid Zone: The literature on the world’s arid zone demonstrates that there are many different definitions of the area referred to, and many different defini­tions of the aridity which is suggested to be the distinguishing characteristic.

Arid zones cover ~ 16% of the planet’s land surface. Arid and semiarid soils are often characterized, by a low content of organic matter, and clay. This leads to a decrease in soil fertility, and dehydration due to its lack of water retention.
