Auraria Campus is an educational facility located near downtown Denver, Colorado in the United States. The campus houses facilities of three separate universities and colleges: [ 1 ] the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver), Community College of Denver (CCD), and Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver).

Auraria was a gold mining camp established in 1858 in the Kansas Territory of the United States. Today it survives in its original location as a neighborhood of Denver, Colorado, immediately south of the confluence of Cherry Creek and the South Platte River.

The Auraria Campus is a dynamic and vibrant higher education community located in the heart of downtown Denver. The 150-acre campus is shared by three separate and distinct institutions of higher learning: Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and University of Colorado Denver.

Led by the Russel brothers who hailed from a town in Georgia called Auraria, the settlement was founded in 1858 by an ambitious group of miners. But before their arrival, a camp was established at the site by the Indigenous Arapahoe people.

Located on the banks of Cherry Creek in the heart of downtown Denver, Auraria is Denver’s oldest neighborhood, which predates the city’s establishment. Auraria today is the thriving campus of the Auraria Higher Education Center (AHEC) that opened in 1976.

Auraria, known as West Denver, was a mixed-use neighborhood for much of its history, home to a diverse group of nationalities and cultures. In 1965 a disastrous flood left Auraria severely damaged, and an urban-renewal project demolished the former neighborhood to build the Auraria Higher Education Center (AHEC) that exists today.

CU Denver is located on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver. Our campus includes buildings on both sides of Speer Boulevard. Students get the best of both worlds—classroom buildings and open green spaces on the west and the vibrant metropolitan charm of historic LoDo (lower downtown) on the east.

A partner of CCD, Auraria Higher Education Center (AHEC) is committed to providing an effective, comprehensive, and supportive environment that facilitates the mission of Community College of Denver. The Auraria Campus is also home to two four-year universities — Metropolitan State University of Denver and the University of Colorado Denver.
