Compared to a high mileage fwd compact, the difference in actual highway and city mileage can be as much as ten mpg…or higher in these older Awd cars. 2008年7月4日 · Why is it that a 4WD vehicle has an advertised MPG so much lower than 2WD. Example: Toyota Matrix 4WD has roughly the same 20/26 MPG of a Subaru AWD. But with a 4WD shouldn’t the low mileage be only when you’re (infrequently) using the 4WD and the rest of the time you’d get the mileage of a 2WD Matrix?

2012年7月16日 · I wouldn’t recommend 4WD. You’re not going to get a good 4WD vehicle for only $3k. You’re going to get an abused rust bucket. Plus, you don’t need 4WD, even for Tahoe trips. You’ll be doing city driving most of the time. Just get a good front wheel drive vehicle and invest in a good set of all-season tires, and a set of cable chains.

2009年7月20日 · High mpg and “off road” are like two opposite poles. You can get one but not the other. AWD Subaru Outbacks get horrible mileage if you are used to the 35+ mpg of a Civic. If you’ve gone this far with a 2000 Civic, your best bet is to get another one. The Civic has little ground clearance.
