The purpose of the training regimen is to instill pride and discipline in each cadet. The CHP Academy will consist of an intense 26-week schedule that will train and educate cadets for a career in law enforcement. The final reward comes at graduation where cadets are promoted to the rank of officer.

The CHP Academy is a 26-week live in training facility. Although you may have most weekends off, you will be very busy with studying. There are a few weekends you will be required to attend training.

Starting the second week and continuing through the Academy, cadets run with their company starting at 1.5 miles and building up to 5 miles by week 25, running 3 days per week. In addition, sprints or interval training will be introduced occasionally after the sixth week.

All CHP cadets go through the same intensive 26-week training at the West Sacramento campus, covering academics, exercise, high-speed driving, and self-discipline to prepare cadets for life in the agency.

Cadets of CTC 1-22 commence on their challenging 26-week journey at the CHP Academy. Over 26 weeks, they will be united by a single mission: to join the ranks of CHP Officers. These cadets are set to undergo rigorous training designed to test their physical strength and mental fortitude.

Being in good physical condition greatly improves a cadet's success rate in all aspects of Academy training. Division recruiters will use the APP to assist applicants in preparing for the Physical Abilities Test, the Physical Fitness Evaluation, and the physical training portion of Academy training.
