"I think the Vega may be the worst car ever made in America in the last 100 years." Hmmmm.....Actually the Vega was considered a fine-handling car for its time, and I think the styling was great. While the silicone-embedded aluminum block was a bust, you could get them sleeved and build them to hell and back, or install the engine of your choice.

The V6 was a cheap quick fix for the expensive aluminum V8, basically that V8 with two cylinders chopped off and with iron block and heads. It didn't blow up like the V8 but it was a rough runner in the early days and, like the V8, it was cast off by GM in the late '60s.

GMC 5.3 vs. 4.8L V8 — Car Forums at Edmunds.com
Ok, any big difference between the 5.3L V8 and the 4.8L V8? I'm closing the deal on my truck tomorrow and am curious why I'm choosing the 5.3L V8? For the old timers out there, it is the same issue as the Cadillac V8-6-4 engine. Make no mistake, If your vehicle has active fuel management, you have a problem!
