The cars had common roots in the old Plymouth Reliant "K cars," but carried an extended wheelbase, an updated suspension, and new styling (inside and out).

The Dodge Aspen and Plymouth Volare were introduced in the middle of the 1976 model year; the Chrysler LeBaron launched quickly afterwards, for model-year 1977. The hidden gem, performance wise, with the 3.0 was the 5 speed manual. It was uncommon and only offered on the LeBaron convertible from 1990-1993.
