Cubbon Park – History. Cubbon Park was laid out in 1870 soon after the completion of Attara Kacheri, the present high court building. The original area of the Park was 100 acres in 1870. It was increased in the later years and stood at around 260 acres by the 1950s. Currently, Cubbon Park has an area of 197 acres 31.50 guntas.

The vast area in between the queens’ statue at the north eastern point and King Edward’s Statue (her son) at the north western point of the Cubbon Park has been developed into a beautiful garden with avenues of Polyialthia longifolia trees at either side.

Since public is not allowed to trample the lawns, they remain green throughout the year. The band stand lies almost in the centre of the Cubbon Park and also in the middle of the road which runs from the portico of Attara Kacheri to Government museum.

Every Sunday is a special Sunday at Cubbon Park. Cubbon Park Sunday activities comprise of a wide range of cultural and sports activities, fun and laughter. Earlier, Military band used to be played here.

This rose garden lies towards the south of Cubbon Park. The building of Sheshadri Memorial Hall is an artistic, magnificent structure. It was constructed in the year 1905 as a memorial to Dewan Sheshadri Iyer.
