The Castle - Duart Castle
The position of Duart was well chosen, it is sited on a high crag at the end of a peninsula jutting into the Sound of Mull. It commands the channel between Mull and the mainland, entrances to Lochs Linne and Etive and the neck of the Firth of Lorne as it meets the Sound of Mull.
History - Duart Castle
Duart and the Macleans. The first recorded mention of the Macleans of Duart is in a papal dispensation of 1367 which allowed their Chief Lachlan Lubanach Maclean to marry the daughter of the Lord of the Isles, Mary Macdonald.

Prices - Duart Castle
The Castle Grounds, Tearoom, Shop and fantastic views are free for everyone to enjoy! Entry to Duart Castle is by ticket only, purchased on arrival. Dogs are welcome in the Castle grounds but are not permitted inside any of the Castle, Tearoom or Shop buildings (except assistance dogs).

Much of our jewellery, clothing, gifts, books, maps and photographs relate to the Clan and the Castle. As well as Duart and Maclean Clan gifts you will find traditional Scottish products and items made locally on Mull.
Bus Tours - Duart Castle
We welcome all bus groups to our Castle but we recommend you pre-book your visit so that we can fully accommodate you. Specific arrangements can be made for travel operators. For example, a voucher system can be organised to ensure swift entry to the Castle and ease of payment for large groups.
