The school mainly undertakes undergraduate courses of clinical medicine (including the Nanshan School) and Traditional Chinese and Western Integrative Medicine, with 18 medical technology departments and 23 teaching and research sections including internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and pediatrics.

Guangzhou Medical University has been authorized to confer master’s degrees since 1984, and enrollment started in 1985. GMU was granted pilot institution for clinical medicine to confer master’s degrees to on-job postgraduates with same academic ability in 2000.
