@Min-SooPipefeet neither motorbikes nor bicycles (bikes can mean either!) drive. To drive a vehicle it is my understanding that a steering wheel is needed. You can drive a bus, lorry, truck, van etc. As for the submarine, I think it either floats or sinks underwater. –

Technically, they both should be interchangeable. As a native speaker, "He comes from the U.S." sounds to me like it could mean "he was formerly in the U.S.", whereas "He is from the U.S." sounds more common and does not carry that ambiguity.
