The Margaret Mitchell House is a historic house museum located in Atlanta, Georgia. The structure was the home of author Margaret Mitchell in the early 20th century. It is located in Midtown, at 979 Crescent Avenue.

Located at the corner of 10th street and Peachtree Street, Atlanta History Center Midtown contains the Margaret Mitchell House, a property listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Margaret Mitchell's one and only novel, "Gone with the Wind," was born in an apartment in this turn-of-the-century Tudor Revival mansion. Now a museum on the National Register of Historic Places, the house offers visitors a tour that tells the story of the author, the Pulitzer Prize-winning book and the making of the movie.

2024年7月10日 · The house museum where Atlanta writer Margaret Mitchell wrote Gone with the Wind has seen an increase in visitors since reopening this summer. The building was closed from March 2020 until July 2024. But it's not the same as it was.

Margaret Mitchell, Peggy Marsh to her friends, dubbed her apartment, "The Dump." Surprisingly, it is in this shabby little apartment on the bottom floor that this petite, yet mighty woman wrote a big 'ol book that sold faster than a duck on a June bug!

Before its restoration, Margaret Mitchell House had fallen into extreme disrepair. Here it is pictured in the 1980s. The house was subject to at least four fires, but the two in the 1990s were by far the most devastating.

2020年10月21日 · Built in 1899 by local architect Cornelius J. Sheehan, the Tudor-style home is one of the oldest surviving structures on Peachtree Street. While Midtown is now a thriving commercial district, it was once a quiet, affluent residential neighborhood lined with stately homes.

Margaret Mitchell House was built in 1899 as a three-story Tudor Revival home. It later was subdivided into 10 apartments and became run down after two owners suffered financial setbacks. In 1978 it was abandoned.
