How reliable is the 2.5 turbo engines? : r/mazda - Reddit
The general sentiment seems to be this is one of the most durable/reliable turbo engines on the market. There were some head casting issues affecting certain 2016-2020 models and leaking valve stem seals in 2021, but both of these issues are covered by Mazda TSB's.

But, I recently found two places, non-Mazda, that identify issues with the 2.0/2.5 Skyactive engines. Neither says how common these problems are. But, combined with some other factors (using a 2.5l 4 cyl to push around a 5,000 lb CX-90 being one of them) I'm wondering if all is so perfect in Mazda land.

I was told by the tech a Mazda that this is a common problem Mazda is having with the cx7's and that tells me that they are very much aware of it, but will not stand behind this issue. We have a '97 mazda b4000 we have had problems with the butterfly valve getting dirty and needs cleaning periodically. Recently the engine stalls and sputters when changing gears similar to a dirty butterfly valve, but the valve is clean and the air filter is new.
