Showy, pink blossoms with yellow veins appear in spring and bloom over a long period. Many insects and moths eat the flower nectar. This plant is resistant to deer, though the seeds attract birds and other smaller rodents. Varieties are also available with white and yellow flowers.

Mexican Evening Primrose is a wild and vigorous little groundcover with a whole lot of flower power. Though it’s true that this perennial is sometimes frowned upon for its invasive tendencies elsewhere in the U.S., controlling its spread in Arizona is as simple as controlling the amount of water it receives.

The large flowers are cup-shaped and showy, usually opening in the evening or cloudy days although in some areas of the county they open during the day. It is drought tolerant and grows in any soil types except poor drainage ones.
