The Roman bridge of Salamanca (Spanish: Puente romano de Salamanca), also known as Puente Mayor del Tormes and as Puente Prinçipal (main bridge), is a Roman bridge crossing the Tormes River in the city of Salamanca, Castile and León, Spain. [1]

2021年4月13日 · The Salamanca Roman Bridge (Puente Romano de Salamanca) is a picturesque stone arched bridge said to date back to the first century AD. This would place it in the reign of Marcus Ulpius Traianus, when the bridge was part of the ‘Plata’ or ‘silver’ route between Merida and Astorga.

The bridge crosses one of the widest stretches of the Tormes River and is located on rocky subsoil. It is 176 m long and 3.70 m wide with 26 round arches and robust pillars. It forms part of the Roman Silver Road that linked Merida and Astorga.

At the entrance to it is the Celtiberian boar, granite sculpture in the form of a bull, testimony to the culture of the Vettones, pre-Roman settlers of the city. The boar is also famous for the reference made to it in one of the masterpieces of Spanish literature: "El Lazarillo de Tormes".
