Why are there so many pins on a SATA power connector?
To sum up, for products supporting the optional SATA 3.3 power disable (PWDIS) function, the third pin (P3) of the SATA connector is now assigned as the Power Disable Control pin. If P3 is driven HIGH (2.1V-3.6V), the power to the drive circuitry will be cut. All drives with this optional feature will not power up if a legacy SATA connector is ...
motherboard - HP P160 Sata Power to PCIe Power - Super User
2023年9月24日 · The power supply is rated for 240W, and the CPU is rated at 65W. I believe there is plenty left that could be used to operate a 100-120W discrete GPU. I've come across SATA cables to PCIe 6-8 pins online, but I'm wondering why not utilize the pinout on the motherboard directly instead of adding a potential weak link in the middle?
Are there different kinds of SATA power connectors, and if so, …
2023年5月1日 · That obviously didn't work! On Apevia's website, although they sell other power cables, they apparently don't sell extra compatible 3-Sata power cables, or say anything about where you can get them. I'm settling for a SATA power cable that plugs into an available 4-pin Molex connector, rather than directly into the power supply. –

Documentation shows that the optical drive power and the hard drives power come out from the same port (go back 3-4 pages). The port and the connector are here. Judging by the official HP documentation and by having five unpopulated pins, I'd say that those exact five pins provide power to the optional optical disk drive.

2015年5月5日 · The 2.5" and 3.5" power and data SATA connectors are identical, BTW, although whilst 3.5" drives typically require 12v and 5v, most 2.5" drives only use the 5v supply. The SATA power connector also carries 3.3v, (orange) but AFAIK that is never used by any modern drive.

2021年1月25日 · You have the regular/classic/original SATA connector. That's 7-pin data, 15-pin power. Micro SATA (Not to be confused with mSATA which is Mini SATA). Micro SATA also known as uSATA is from back in the past, when you had 1.8" drives and some (maybe all), had Micro SATA connectors. But 1.8" drives were rare. It was only on those. The 2.5" drives ...

Fan connections would be the closest example. So it is simply not standard for storage drive power, but that does not make it proprietary. Obviously they cannot use a SATA-style power connector for the source-end. A standard Molex-style power connector probably uses too …

2020年11月28日 · No, they're not. They're power cables for your PSU units that happen to have SATA on the other end. The end pictured is a generic molex wire-to-board connector and the pinout is whatever the PSU manufacturer decides. SATA is a specification that defines connector pinouts and what you have there is not part of that specification. –
