SLS vs Saturn V, SLS sucks ? Question How is it possible that Saturn V had double if not the same payload to the moon and it went further as a standalone rocket than the SLS, but it gets worse… how come Saturn V could do it but SLS will need approx. 16 Starships plus Artemis III will actually be 2 SLS launches.

2015年9月5日 · The Saturn V was designed to be the best rocket that NASA could construct at the time, while the SLS seems to me to be US senators desperately trying to keep the shuttle industry alive and forcing NASA to use components for tasks that they were never designed for. Saturn V all the way for me.

The N-1 got 11.2 million lbs of thrust at liftoff Wich was way more powerful than the Saturn V, but couldn’t put nearly as much into orbit. (95 tons vs 140 tons)

2019年2月21日 · Building a fully reusable rocket larger than the Saturn V is a major undertaking. OTOH even if they fail completely at the reusability side of things, it would still be offering better performance and cost then the SLS. So for that reason I can't understand skepticism from NASA.

2018年1月7日 · The Saturn V's F-1 engines were only 263 seconds at sea level and 304 in vacuum, significantly worse than Merlin. The second stage however, used J-2 engines with a vacuum specific impulse of 421 seconds, much better than the vacuum optimized Merlin.
