2009年1月31日 · Alan, the last time I looked, Joel of "Tools for w--etc" had a free plan for a DT open handle on his site. It looks like a good one. I have tried them all -the modern ones- and found Mike Wenzloff's to fit me best. Oh, and his saw cuts like a dream.

The carcase saw is my adaptation of an old disston pattern. The 3-in.-wide by 12-in.-long blade is a great size for cutting joinery—tenons, notches, or miters—and cutting parts to final length. The shape of the handle is important, too. It keeps my hand well above the blade and allows me to drive a board into the fence when ripping on the tablesaw. When I point my index finger on top and wrap the rest of my hand under the handle, the push stick becomes an extension of my hand and I can better control how and where I direct the pressure.

STEP 7: Install the handle before shaping. The sockets are also driven on with thickened epoxy, as detailed in step four. After the epoxy cures, rough out the handle using a coarse spokeshave. This is where you get to be creative. Since this is made by hand, you have the opportunity to make the handle fit your hand.

2008年2月17日 · it's a fret saw so the blades are 5 inch scroll saw blades without pins. it's a new saw and the missing handle was wood. the protruding metal part that the old handle attached to is about 2 inches long and 1/8 thick and 3/8 wide. i generally cut on the pull stroke. 2022年1月21日 · The broken handle is probably cherry, in case you decide to repair it. One tip: I learned from experience that some of the old saws were tempered harder than modern ones. The result was that I broke off a tooth or two before I realized that I could only set the very tip of the tooth, not the whole tooth.

2004年9月18日 · When you say "new" handle do you mean a brand-spanking new handle or do you mean new to you? The handle I have has been in the weather. Not a bit of finish. Gray wood. BLO seems to be at least what I start with. I am not interested in restoring the handle to new as much as I am making it last, and look at least decent. Thanks, Alan - planesaw

2019年10月22日 · Attached are some tools I made. I used red maple for the gauges, pear for the planes, and sweet gum for the saw handle. The router plane has a concrete anchor bolt for a blade and depth control. It is soft metal so must be sharpened or touched up often. I just used hack saw, grinding wheel, files, and sharpening stones to shape it.

2002年8月1日 · At one time, Japanese saws were hard to come by in the United States. Now, however, they’re available in most woodworking retail stores and catalogs. Among all of the current choices, I’ve come to favor a set sold under the Z-Saw name. Z-Saws have several features I like. The blades are interchangeable, so you need only one handle.
