I’m reading that it comes from how people used to think geese were “silly” animals. (I don’t know what other kinds of geese are like, but the Canada geese where I live are more cranky than silly).

2023年10月18日 · Silly goose is pretty much the LEAST insulting insult there is. It's more affectionate and lighthearted than an actual insult. The only time I really hear it is when a parent is commenting on their child being silly or playful. I wouldn't really use it in any kind of serious environment of any kind, only really use it with kids for the most part.
