Each year, ISHA's Public Information, Membership, and Marketing Committee secures a Governor's Proclamation signifying the month of May as Better Hearing and Speech Month, also known as National Speech-Language-Hearing Month! This proclamation brings awareness to the 46 million Americans that are affected by communicative disorders.

Speech-Language-Hearing Month has a storied history of raising awareness that helps Americans with communication disorders receive care and treatment. Founded in 1927, this observance has undergone several name changes throughout the years to reflect inclusivity and expanding knowledge within the field.

2024年4月25日 · May is fast approaching, and this year the communication sciences and disorders (CSD) community’s annual awareness month has a new name: National Speech-Language-Hearing Month (NSLHM). The National Association for Hearing and Speech Action (NAHSA), ASHA’s consumer affiliate, decided on the new name last summer.
