The pacing of the film is lightning quick. There's a little bit of set-up and character introductions early on, but once the action begins it never relents. The film is only 93 minutes admittedly, however it is over before you know it. There's a new voice on the tapes this time around.

According to director Darren Lynn Bousman, a trap consisting of someone getting their face cut off had to be cut from the film in order for it to receive an R rating from the MPAA. Darren Lynn Bousman wanted a subway tunnel, but he was told the logistics weren't in the budget.

In 2021, we got Spiral: From the Book of Saw, which indeed found Rock playing a Chris Rock-like detective named Zeke Banks, who’s hot on the trail of a brutal serial killer.
