Stephanie Tubbs Jones (September 10, 1949 – August 20, 2008) [1] [2] [3] was an American politician who served as the U.S. representative for Ohio's 11th congressional district from 1999 until her death in 2008.

During her 3 decades of public service, Stephanie Tubbs Jones earned many "firsts." In 1983, she was the first Black woman on the Court of Common Pleas in Ohio. In 1991, she was the first Black person and the first woman to serve as a prosecutor in Cuyahoga County.

TUBBS JONES, STEPHANIE (10 September 1949 - 20 August 2008) was the first African American woman from Ohio elected to the United States House of Representatives, and served the state's eleventh congressional district for nearly ten years. Prior to her election to Congress, Tubbs Jones was Chief Prosecutor of Cuyahoga County.

Before she became the first Black woman from Ohio to be elected to Congress, Stephanie Tubbs Jones was president of the African-American Society as a Case Western Reserve University student. She went on to represent Ohio’s 11th Congressional District for five terms, during which time she championed education, voting rights and healthcare causes.

2008年3月16日 · Stephanie Tubbs Jones was a Democratic Representative of the state of Ohio. She was born on September 10, 1949 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio and attended the county’s public schools before getting her bachelor’s degree in social work from Case Western Reserve University in 1971.

Stephanie Tubbs Jones defended civil liberties, even when it was difficult or unpopular. She opposed government abuses of power in the Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act and Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
