Vágar Island is the third largest island in the Faroe Islands. The stunning island lies between Mykines Island to the west and Streymoy Island to the east. Being one of the most beloved islands in the Faroe Islands, Vágar Island has a wide array of sights to explore.

Vágar (Faroese pronunciation:; Danish: Vågø) is one of the 18 islands in the archipelago of the Faroe Islands and the most westerly of the large islands. With a size of 178 square kilometres (69 square miles), it ranks third in size, behind Streymoy and Eysturoy. Vágar region also comprises the island of Mykines.

Vágar island is my favorite of all the Faroe Islands. The landscape is so dramatic and the villages so charming, you almost don’t need to explore any other island to get the full Faroese experience. From jaw-dropping waterfalls to easy hikes with the most stunning views – Vágar really has it all.

Vágar Island is the westernmost of the largest islands in the Faroe Islands. The island is like a ‘Faroe Islands in Miniature’ due to the wealth of attractions and natural wonders found here.
